All problems
My photos are too bright (washed out)
Overexposure and blown highlights
Why it happens
- ISO was left high from a previous indoor or evening shoot.
- The shutter stayed too slow for bright sun.
- Bright skies and white surfaces fooled the camera into overexposing.
How to fix it
- 1
Drop ISO back to its lowest value (usually 100) outdoors.
- 2
Speed up the shutter or close the aperture a stop or two.
- 3
Use exposure compensation (−1) against snow, beaches and bright skies.
- 4
Turn on the histogram or highlight warning when reviewing photos — a screen in sunlight always looks fine.
