Easy
Wide views where you want detail from the foreground all the way to the horizon.
Lenses that suit this: Wide angle: 10-24mm on APS-C, 16-35mm on full frame.
The guide
Starting point
f/8–f/11, ISO 100, shutter to suit the light. Use a tripod when the shutter gets slower than 1/60s.
Focus technique
Focus about a third into the scene rather than on the horizon. At f/8–f/11 that usually keeps everything acceptably sharp.
Golden hour
Low sunlight gives shape and colour. Midday sun flattens landscapes.
Why not f/22
Very small openings soften the whole picture. f/8–f/11 is usually the sharpest range on most lenses.
