The classic cheap lens that makes photos look instantly more professional: a wide f/1.8 opening and a natural 50mm view.
50mm is the focal length — how much of the scene fits in the frame. f/1.8 is the widest the lens opens: it lets in a lot of light and makes backgrounds soft. A lower f-number generally means more light and a shallower zone of sharpness.
